Quarter III includes the following classes:

VOCAL STYLE PREP III (JAZZ): (3 Credits) Step into the world of jazz vocals, where every note tells a story and rhythm becomes your playground. The final style prep level in the 1 year program explores core jazz vocal techniques, phrasing, improvisation, and stylistic expression. You will develop swing rhythm awareness, begin scat singing, and practice microphone technique while learning jazz standards from the Great American Songbook. Through guided listening, ensemble singing, and solo exercises, singers will cultivate the rhythmic flexibility and storytelling approaches that form the basis of jazz vocalism—and which enrich all contemporary singing.

VOCAL TECHNIQUE: MASTERING YOUR INSTRUMENT: (3 Credits) Your voice is more than sound—it’s a finely-tuned instrument waiting to reach its full potential. In this advanced technique course, you’ll transform from a skilled vocalist into a master musician, developing the technical command that will amplify your performances in any setting. Through personal training from professional artists, you’ll conquer the final frontiers of vocal control: seamless register blending, dynamic precision from whisper to wail, and the stamina to deliver night after night. Throughout the course, we’ll break down the advanced techniques behind show-stopping riffs, sustained high belts, and emotionally charged performances—all while protecting your instrument.

HARMONIC DESIGN: (1 Credit) Harmonies are the secret language of emotion in music— learn to speak it fluently. This course transforms you from a harmony appreciator to a harmony architect, giving you the tools to construct vocal arrangements with purpose and power. Through analyzing everything from Renaissance polyphony to TikTok-era vocal production, and dissecting iconic arrangements from masters of harmony like H.E.R, Jacob Collier, and The Beatles, you’ll discover how harmonies can intensify lyrics, amplify hooks, and create unforgettable musical moments.

VOCAL COMPING: (2 Credits) This course teaches you to transform raw takes into professional studio quality vocals. Whether you’re recording yourself or producing other vocalists, you’ll master the art of comping: selecting, editing, and assembling your best vocal takes into a flawless final performance. Through hands-on production sessions, you’ll develop the critical ear to identify winning phrases, the technical skills to edit seamlessly, and the musical intuition to preserve emotional authenticity while polishing performances.

STRUCTURE OF THE MUSIC BUSINESS: (3 Credits) This course covers the essential components of the music business, including record labels, music publishing, live performance, artist management, digital distribution, and the impact of technology. Students will delve into the roles and functions of various industry players, analyze real-world case studies, and gain insights from industry professionals. Emphasis is placed on understanding current trends, legal considerations, and strategic career planning, equipping students with the knowledge necessary to navigate the dynamic landscape of the music business.

STYLE PREP RHYTHM SECTION I: (1 Credit) This class gives the student the opportunity to apply the work done in the style of preparation and student rehearsal classes in an actual rhythm section setting made up of professional musicians.

ARTIST BRANDING WORKSHOP: (1 Credit) As the musical landscape continues to evolve in the digital age, artist branding is leaping into the spotlight when it comes to cutting through the noise. This workshop isn’t about slapping together a logo and calling it a day—it’s about crafting an authentic, magnetic identity that makes audiences and industry pros stop scrolling. You’ll roll up your sleeves to decode what makes today’s standout artists unforgettable, develop your visual and narrative DNA, and create a real-world branding toolkit.

1 YEAR FINAL PROJECT [ACCOMPANIED BY PRIVATE LESSONS]: (2 Credits) This is where your training comes alive. For your 1 year capstone project, you’ll step into the spotlight with a professional showcase that proves what you can do with your voice. Blending live performance and studio work, you’ll present contrasting pieces that highlight your versatility—from jazz standards to contemporary hits—while developing the complete package: killer vocals, stage presence, and a distinct artistic identity. With faculty mentorship and professional musician collaboration, you’ll create performance-ready materials that don’t just demonstrate your skills, but also who you are as an artist.
